The
conference will be held on 23rd April 2015 at Our Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh on
the theme of ‘developing diversity competence’.
By
developing diversity competence – in our students and in our staff – we not
only create a higher education environment in which all students can feel as
though they belong, but we also equip them with vital intercultural and
diversity skills that will enable them to succeed in a globalised and
interconnected world.
This
conference will focus on how we can ensure that they, and we, are able to
negotiate this world in a manner that values, preserves, and responds to
equality and diversity.
•
How do we develop student diversity competence through our learning, teaching
and assessment practices?
•
How can we contribute to non-curricula activities to help our students develop
diversity competence?
•
How do we ensure our staff are diversity competent so they can teach and
support students in a manner that embeds equality and diversity?
The
conference is free for staff and students from institutions in Scotland to
attend. To ensure all HEIs have opportunity to send delegates, there is an
initial cap of 5 places per institution, with a waiting list operating after
that.
